OET (Occupational English Test)
        What is OET?

The Occupational English Test (OET) is a language test for medical and health professionals whose first language is not English.  It assesses English language proficiency as it is used in medical and health professions in Australia / New Zealand.

        Why OET?

OET is a language test which is as good as IELTS to work or to study in Australia or New Zealand for the health professionals.
  • At present only very few nurses get the required score in IELTS to work as a Registered Nurse in these countries  ( the required score is L-6.5, R-6.5, W-7, S-7).
  • The main advantage of OET is that we can reappear for the particular module in which we did not get enough score.  For OET, we need to get “B” Grade for all the modules which is 67% of mark to work as a Registered Nurse. And for re-sitting we need to pay as per the number of modules for which we plan to sit.  But, for IELTS this is not possible and most of the students now-a-day end up with a 6.5 band in either Writing or in Speaking of IELTS and we become tired of repeat sitting for IELTS.
  • Since OET is profession specific, nurses find it is easier than IELTS if the training is in the proper method and even an average nurse would be able to clear the test by 2 or 3 sitting in the examination and become eligible to work as a registered Nurse in Australia.  Therefore, even if you cannot manage to get all the four modules in one sitting you are not failing in the exam rather you pass 3 or 2 modules.
  • For UK, of course, they don’t require many more Nurses to work and it is expected that the recession would continue for USA for a period of minimum 3 years.  And, therefore, if we plan to go to an English speaking country the best possible option is either Australia or New Zealand and if you are so particular to go to UK, or USA we can even move from these countries.
  • The only demerit of OET is its high exam fees; still, OET is better than IELTS since only if you are an exceptionally brilliant candidate you would be able to clear IELTS otherwise you would be giving the exam time and again.
